Sergey After Surgery

“My troubles with excess weight began about 20 years ago, about the same time I moved to North Hollywood where I still live today. I’ve tried different diets and exercise over the years, but I’ve never had success with any of them. I asked my physician what I should do about my weight, but he only suggested more diets  that never worked.

Foot, knee and back pain began to creep up on me, making it increasingly difficult to function at my job for the State of California. As my weight increased, I developed shortness of breath, hypertension, high cholesterol, and was on the verge of diabetes. The time I could spend on my feet became limited, and activities I once enjoyed  running, playing football, and swimming, were now things of the past. It became so difficult to walk, that I worked up quite a sweat from it and was forced to carry a towel to wipe away the excessive perspiration.

In 2006 I learned about the Lap-Band and asked my physician about it. He discouraged me, stating that these procedures have too many negative side effects. Over the next few years, however, my health continued to worsen and I asked him again for a referral to a bariatric surgeon. I wanted to hear another opinion. In June, 2009, I met Dr. John Yadegar.

Dr. Yadegar was really wonderful. He explained everything so well. When I walked into his office I thought I was ready for weight loss surgery. But when we were done talking, there was no doubt in my mind that this was the right choice for me and Dr. Yadegar was the right surgeon to do it.

I had Gastric Bypass surgery in November, 2009. Everything went smoothly and I had almost no pain aftr surgery. The following morning the nurses had me up and walking around. I had to stay a few extra days because I developed a fever, but that was resolved and I went home to enjoy a good recovery. Within a few months, my medical conditions improved. At work, where I have 50-100 customers per day, the improvement in my performance and ability to handle stress was unbelievable.

As the pounds continued to drop off- my family, friends and coworkers became more amazed. You could say I was somewhat of a celebrity at work with my colleagues and customers. My life started to fill up again with all the things I couldn’t do for years. I feel like a completely new person now. Not only did I cut my weight in half, I feel like I cut my age in half too!

Of course people ask me about my weight loss and the surgery. I can tell they’re thinking about doing it. I tell them if you want to improve your life and you’re ready to really LIVE again, then go ahead and don’t look back! Get your life back. Get yourself back! So far I’ve lost 176 pounds. Some members of my family can’t even keep up with me now. Who knows what the future will bring, but right now I am very happy thanks to the support of my friends and family, and the golden hands of Dr. John Yadegar.”
