“Dr. Yadegar asked me if I would share my weight loss surgery story. Of course I was happy to, but it was hard finding the time to sit down and answer his questions about my weight loss surgery journey. I have too much energy to sit still for very long!

I lived almost all my life with obesity. From a young girl, through adolescence, meeting & marrying my husband, having my children & watching them grow to marry and have children of their own. Of course I tried diets, and many of them worked, for a little while. Once, I actually lost 70 pounds! And then regained all 70, plus more. I’ve paid more money than I care to count to multiple weight loss programs: Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Medifast, Lindora, Schick. And I tried so many on my own: TOPS, Atkins, Susan Powter, & a 12-Step program. None gave me the tools I needed to reduce my weight and keep it off.

My health declined dramatically. I developed high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type II Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and GERD. I could not sleep in my bed. I had to sleep in a reclining chair. My family needed me, but I was finding it more difficult to be there for them, I was tired all the time and just didn’t feel well. When my doctor told me I had to start insulin injections, I knew it was time for me to do something about my obesity once and for all.

A dear friend of mine had Weight Loss Surgery and was enjoying terrific results. I discussed WLS with my physician and he agreed to refer me for a bariatric surgery consultation. It was a magical day when I received my referral to Dr. Yadegar. It gave me the resolve to move forward with the WLS journey and never look back.

I met with Dr. Yadegar and learned about the three WLS procedures he performs. After talking with my husband and supportive friends, I decided the Sleeve Gastrectomy was the best choice for me. I had my surgery in March, 2011 without any complications. Pain was never a problem for me after surgery. I did have vomiting for two days after surgery, which Dr. Yadegar said is normal for 2-3 days after having the Sleeve. I began walking shortly after the surgery, and just took my emesis basin with me if I felt nauseous. The surgical experience went very well and Dr. Yadegar was great.

I have not taken any medication since my surgery. My Diabetes is in complete remission, and I no longer have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. My Osteoarthritis pain is minimal and I don’t snore anymore. Life in my two-story house is much better since I can zip up and down the stairs with ease now.

Today, 7 months after surgery, I feel better than I did in my 30s. My grandchildren and I can enjoy Disneyland together and they have trouble keeping up with me! I am gardening & interior decorating again, and going places that require a lot of walking which is no longer a problem for me. My husband says he has a hard time finding me in a crowd since I blend in with all the other healthy weight people now. My latest ‘ah-ha’ moment was learning I weigh less than my husband and my children  for the first time ever.

Well, that’s about all the time I have because I feel the need to get up and get going since I’m making up for lost time. Before surgery, I had no energy and would only read or watch TV. But now there are so many things to do! Okay, last question: “If you had the choice, would you choose to have Weight Loss Surgery again?” Final answer: YES!”
